| Name: | Nara Shikamaru |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | 1988-09-22 |
the boy name → Nara Shikamaru age → 17 sex → all man, baby birthday → September 22nd starsign → Libra/Virgo cusp The astrological symbol of Virgo is the Virgin; Libra is represented by the Scales. Virgo/Libras abhor unfairness and conflict, striving above all for peace, but at times they are easily deterred from their beliefs. They are able to see all sides of an argument, but as their mental scales sway back and forth, they may never find balance and can become fickle and indecisive. They are skilled at seeing all sides of a situation, which is an expression of Virgo's mutable quality. Virgo/Libras are skilled at initiating group projects. In this way, the cardinal quality of Libra is exemplified. When Virgo/Libras set goals for themselves, they are determined to succeed. This astrological combination tends to be about other people rather than personal development. They are socially inclined and charming, but their focus is about smaller-scale projects and individuals. Because of Virgo's association with individuals and health, and Libra's innate interest in others, many Virgo/Libras are drawn toward careers in medicine. bloodtype → AB cool, controlled, rational, critical, indecisive canon → Naruto army → Ex Favila occupation → spy clan → the Nara clan team → Team 10 the brain basic personality → First and foremost, Shikamaru is lazy. Or, at the very least, he was, particularly when he was younger. You wouldn't think that there was any way at all that a person could be as lazy and lack as much ambition as Shikamaru, but spend a couple minutes around him and you would have found out that it's very possible, very quickly. Never was there any reason for his being lazy. There was nothing in his childhood to really cause it, and in fact, he was that way every since early childhood. Some might postulate that it's genetic, but that's silly. Whatever the reason, his severe lack of motivation once got him in heaps of trouble; however, as of late, he has been taking quite a bit more responsibility. Ever since the death of his sensei and the promise that he made to Asuma, his level of effort has drastically increased, to the point where many might make note of the sudden change in demeanor. He's learning to become the responsible adult that he needs to be in order to protect the next generation of Konoha, and even goes on to lecture twice on how he needs to start taking that responsibility. He definitely shows it, eventually, in his apparent dedication to visiting Kurenai on a constant basis, to the point that she even asks him to stop. He doesn't do things halfway anymore, although that particularly development might be attributed to his previous failure in retrieving Sasuke. This doesn't mean he's made a complete about-face, but his characteristic laziness has decreased by a large factor. Of course, Shikamaru has always had strong sense of fairness, which is entirely how he met his best friend Chouji, when the other kids wouldn't choose the "fat" kid for their team, and Shikamaru saw it as unfair, thus wandering off from the play group to hang out with Chouji instead. His sense of justice makes him a bit cocky at times, particularly when seeking revenge for the untimely death of father-to-be teacher. It has not gotten him in trouble thus far, but it could conceivably be his downfall in the future if he doesn't learn to control his emotions, another problem he's had before. Again, this is not amply explained in canon, simply demonstrated that it "is what it is", something with him since he was a kid. It might be fair to say that his sense of justice is linked to both his intelligence and his laziness-- for one, being mean takes effort, and for two, he's most likely to see the logical fallacies in excluding someone. That, or he's just an all around nice guy under that cocky facade. The world may never know. Despite this sense of justice, his revenge was not entirely driven by it, although there's no doubt that it was a contributing factor. Moreover, despite all these changes, or perhaps it's what has facilitated them, he is loyal to a fault. It's caused him emotional distress in the past, and while he gets better at it, he continues to be tough on himself in the event that he lets anyone close to him down. Still, he's a good friend and will actually get up off his butt to do what he needs to do, and whereas his younger self might have been Konoha's biggest coward, he's become a lot more courageous in just a few short years. But because of this, he tends to get down on himself if he lets down any of his friends. After failing to bring Sasuke back, and thus coming back from his first mission a failure, he considered actually quitting being a ninja, at which point his father had to verbally smack some sense to him. It seems that since then, he's taken his father's advice to heart, that if he's not the one out there, leading his friends, then they still might get hurt and might die, but he wouldn't even have had the chance to stop them. To compound all of this, Shikamaru is honest, sometimes to the point of being rude-- not on purpose, he just doesn't hold back, and he can be a bit chauvinistic at times. More than once he's expressed his annoyance with women as a whole, although his older self seems to have calmed down on that front, so a lot of his outspokenness against women might also be attributed to the usual 12-year-old boy mentality that girls do, in fact, have cooties-- something that no amount of genius can convince a boy of otherwise. But on the whole, he probably gets along with people, and the longer they know him, the more they know not to take some of the things he says too seriously, and that his laziness can let up a times. Generally, though, all of life is a bother for him and one of his favorite words is "troublesome". There are varying degrees to which Shikamaru might react to surprises, depending on exactly what the surprise is. Mundane ones, the sort of every day thing, are met with disinterest, shoulder shrugging, and so on. Anything non-harmful might be met with a little hidden interest but an outward facade of completely ambivalence. He's not exactly the type to get riled up about things that can't be helped...unless, of course, they involve death or injury. These are the only times that Shikamaru is likely to react with any sort of violence, although he errs towards the side of strategy. When taken by surprise in that context, he likes to finish things in as few moves as possible, and if he is not on the battlefield, he will become reserved and pensive while he works out a strategy. To complement his expressed dislike of women, most of his opponents, barring Hidan and Kakuzu of Akatsuki, have been women, and many of his appearances coincide with that of the Suna ninja Temari-- he fought her in the Chuunin exams, she saved him against the Sound ninja, and after the time skip, we see that they are working together as the new examiners for the Chuunin exam. After the encounter during which she saves him from certain death, he rates Temari as being the scariest woman he knows, beating out even his own mother, and Ino. Still, his mother and Ino do managed to strike a bit of fear into his heart. Regardless of much he may or may not have matured, he continues to enjoy watching the clouds and lying about in bed when he has the chance, although as the number of troublesome women around him grows, this isn't nearly as possible as it used to be. He still complains though, just like the old Shikamaru, and he maintains his old man habits, particularly in the area of playing shogi, which he'll take over training any day of the week if he has the option. His overall goal in life has consistently been to get married to a woman who's neither too ugly nor two pretty, have a daughter first, then a son, then once his son has a job and his daughter is married, he can retire to play shogi for the rest of his days until he dies before his wife. personal strengths → Shikamaru's most valuable asset is his extremely high intelligence, which in turn allows him to to plan several steps ahead. In addition, his is amazingly loyal to those he cares about. Also, he can draw really cute chibis for strategy diagrams. ♥ personal weaknesses → His biggest weakness is the fact that his emotions can and do get the best of him, both in the sense that he might be disheartened by the fall of a comrade, or take the other side-- the side of retribution-- and get a little too cocky. Also, he also tends to lack a lot of motivation in areas not involving his best friends or Kurenai and her unborn baby. the knight known elements → chaotic neutra-- I mean, wind. I think. It's not explicitly stated anywhere, but heavily implied anyway, as Asuma basically says that you need wind chakra to effectively use the trench knives and...well...Shikamaru can use the trench knives! weapons → Asuma's trench knives, Temari description of abilities → Most of Shikamaru's abilities focus around the manipulation and use of shadows, passed down through the generations of his clan. The prerequisite for these abilities is the presence of any sort of shadow, either from a person, a tree, a building-- anything. Many of them involve connecting his own shadow with the target's, in order to manipulate the target themselves, or the target's own shadow. The more shadow in an area, the stronger his techniques are. Because of the variability of range, Shikamaru can work in both close combat and long-range combat, but it mostly depends on whether there is enough shadow present to facillitate this. For example, in a forest, in broad daylight, he could conceivably have a range as far as he could see (or as far as his chakra would allow, whichever came first); at night with a new moon, however, his abilities would be rendered useless. Throughout the series, he has learned several new jutsu and developed at least one of them himself. Kagemane no Jutsu - most basic technique, supplementary skill, allows him to capture his opponent's shadow with his own and control their movements as mirroring his own. Pre-time skip, this ability could be held (without other interruptions) for about five minutes, give or take. strengths → He has an average speed, a decent knowledge of genjutsu and a firm grasp on ninjutsu. His attacks are especially powerful in the morning and in the afternoon, when shadows are longer and thicker. In the absense of natural light, he can use any number of tools to create light, and in fact one of his abilities hinges solely around this. The ability to stretch and mold the shape of his shadow allows him to cover a considerably longer length than a normal shadow as well, although it's generally implied that, unless he has another shadow (usually of an inanimate object) to pass through, he cannot change the total area of said shadow, only the dimensions. weaknesses → His taijutsu skills could use a bit of work-- work which they'll probably never get, considering that it's Shikamaru. His stamina is also very lacking, and he cannot use his techniques very many times before he runs out of chakra. Also, as mention above, his abilities depend on shadow, but not necessarily darkness. In theory, even at night, there is a minute amount of ambient light to create a shadow, but basically the contrast of the shadow to the surrounding light is inversely proportional to the strength of his technique, thus making night battling nearly impossible for him unless there is a full or gibbous moon. Cloudy days (ironically enough) can also be a problem, if it is particularly overcast. |
